I googled Vegan it says, “A person who does not eat or use animal products.” But I think it is a lot more than that. It’s a bit complicated and there are many categories to add to what a vegan lifestyle is and it’s changing. Wikipedia has a more in depth description under Veganism. It basically says it is a whole philosophy about the consumption of any animal products, meaning dietary or any other biproducts. Strict Vegans abstain from all these dietary products for heath and well being. There is also an Ethical Vegan who strongly avoid animal products morally, and refuse using animals for any purpose whatsoever, such as leather and fur and are as sort of an animal activist. There’s an Environmental Veganism going on, avoiding animal products because of the commercialism and the way the food industry treats animals. They also feel it is extreme animal cruelty and some even protest this. They also feel it is affecting the environment meaning unsustainable, essentially throwing our ecosystems off balance and so forth. Whatever the reason to be vegan seems pretty logical on all fronts. Its healthy, its kind to animals and the earth in which we live.
I say that I am vegan curious because I have done a vegan diet and in 6 months dropped half of my blood pressure medications. And in a year got off all of them. I even dropped a few pounds and I look and feel better. However I am a “Boomer” and my son, who got me into this, is a” Millennial” who is now 26 years old. He studied nutrition and exercise science. I first couldn’t handle the idea at all. I thought he was crazy! then I started to try vegan recipes and rethink my food. I kept saying. “Oh its too late for me; I am old you are young.” But guess what? We are never too old to feel and look better now are we?
Whatever reason people want to try it or be educated about it, I say are Vegan Curious like me. A boomer who wants to be healthy, kind to animals as well as the environment. Let’s add more plants less animal products in our lives. I do say I am a Flexitarian as well and this is why. Myself being Vegan Curious; I started out very slow. Here are the 5 things I did to help me and how went on my valley vegan journey.

And believe me there are some pretty tasty choices here in Youngstown, Ohio Pizza Capital Of the World!” I will make you a list! So now we have 5 days a week vegan now what? It was hard on the weekends and so we were CHEEGANS on the weekend that is cheating on our vegan health diet encouraged by our son. So we would sneak around eating chicken or fish! Usually out for dinner. Then we discovered a lot of local restaurants that are vegan friendly. And there you have it; Our vegan journey , but there came along some hassles and surprising opposition from everywhere! Including ourselves.
